Mount Lawrence
Documentaries don't often make use of animation, but it can make a huge impact when done well. Mount Lawrence chronicles the journey of director Chandler Wild, as he travels by bicycle from New York to Alaska in order to name a mountain after his late father.
Though the live-action footage is often breathtaking, Wild was concerned his internal, emotional journey wasn't visually represented, Inspired by North American cave paintings, we worked together closely in order to develop a series of simple figures, representing the film's key players during a handful of introspective moments. In addition to these figure sequences, I also constructed a dynamic, multi-layered map of North America, used to orient the viewer as Wild and his crew make their way across the continent.
